Our Impact

Voce seeks to connect with our community, making choral arts more accessible and enjoyable for all. Our impact can be seen in our concerts in person, online, and through our history of commissions.

Welcoming All

Voce is making choral music more accessible and inclusive for performers, audiences, and the broader community.

  • Projecting live captions during concerts

  • Performing in multiple languages, representing varied cultures and ethnicities

  • Featuring traditionally underrepresented composers in our programming

  • Sharing select videos of performances online for free for those who are unable attend in person

Commissioning New Works

We support living composers by commissioning new works from established and upcoming composers. We performed our first commission, “Sing Me to Heaven” by Daniel Gawthrop, on Feb 4, 1991. “Sing Me to Heaven” quickly became a choral music best-seller.

Our latest commission is “To Bring Forth Miracles” by local Virginia composer Emily Mason. The work was created through the generosity of Voce’s alumni and the 35th Anniversary Alumni Fund, with it’s world premier at the April 2025 concert entitled Herstory. It is a narrated choral piece that moves from despair to hope, including a glorious choral finale.

“In the darkest of times, Voce has been a constant source of light, beauty and hope. I am deeply grateful to David Mann and the Voce singers for keeping the light burning brightly.
