Our 27th season closes with a program to include the world premiere of a new Voce commission by a leading American composer. We will also revisit some of the best of Voce’s previous commissions—a distinguished catalogue of works which have made an essential contribution to the world of contemporary American choral music. We situate this important element of our history within the broader context of American choral music in the 20th century, with a selection of works to include Bernstein’ Chichester Psalms, Barber’s Reincarnations, the Five Shaker Lyrics of Karen Tarlow, and works of Boston based composer Rodney Lister.

AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT Voce Chamber Singers Audition Dates: June 8, 22, 23, and 29
Reston, VA — The Voce Chamber Singers announce auditions for the 2015-16 season. Auditions will be held, by appointment only, from 6:30 to 9:00 PM on June 8, 22, 23, and 29 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, VA.
Hailed by The Washington Post as “Northern Virginia’s premier choral ensemble,” Voce is a group of highly skilled, volunteer singers dedicated to the study and performance of the greatest works from the chamber chorus repertoire. Throughout its 26-year history, Voce has gained national recognition for its commitment to commissioning new works by distinguished composers. In addition to the catalogue of works written for and first performed by the ensemble, Voce has also presented national and regional premieres of many contemporary choral works. Dr. Richard Giarusso serves as artistic director of the 30-voice ensemble.
Repertoire for the upcoming season includes works of Duruflé, Hindemith, Lauridsen, Pärt, and Barber, among others. Other highlights of the 2015-16 season include the premiere of a new Voce commission by a leading American composer and a recording project planned for summer 2016. Weekly rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from September through April, with performances in October, December, and April.
We invite inquiries from qualified singers in all voice parts who are excited by the prospect of rehearsing and performing challenging repertoire with a selective ensemble of dedicated and experienced singers. Interested candidates should have strong musicianship skills and be sensitive to issues of blend, intonation, phrasing, and diction.
Auditions will consist of simple vocalises to evaluate range, a solo piece of the candidate’s choosing, and brief excerpts drawn from the 2015-16 repertoire (music to be provided in advance). Candidates should bring an additional copy of their solo piece, and they should be prepared to sing both their solo piece and the choral excerpts without accompaniment. Auditions will last approximately 15 minutes and candidates should arrive at least 10 minutes in advance of their scheduled time.
